James Newbury Hotel

The site of the voco James Newbury Hudson Valley has a storied past with much history behind it. Back in the 19th century, Coxsackie NY was a busy commercial shipping port located on the Hudson River. Products including farm produce and locally manufactured items such as bricks, lumber, ice and J. G. Newbury Ironworks iron were loaded onto ships and sent off down the river to markets around the world. The original J. G. Newbury foundry, later the State Wire & Cable Company, has now been renovated and restored into our adjacent Wire Event Center venue. The dock areas the commercial ships sailed from are now our 6 acre lawn and the nearby Coxsackie Riverside Park. Much care was taken during the restoration to combine the original industrial design of the Wire into its current décor and ambiance, with nods to the history and beauty of the Hudson River Valley.

Not only were agricultural and manufactured items carried on the Hudson River, so were people. The river was the primary mode of transportation before the speed and convenience of trains took over, and the “day line” passenger boat company traveled between New York City and Albany daily well into the middle of the 20th century. This was the inspiration for the name of our rooftop restaurant on the fifth floor of the voco James Newbury Hudson Valley, the Day Line Oyster Bar & Kitchen, where you can find sweeping views of the Hudson and a seafood focused menu.

We are honored that the work and design that went into the three year project behind the collection of the voco James Newbury Hudson Valley, the Wire Event Center, Day Line Oyster Bar & Kitchen and Patrick Henry’s Waterfront Tavern properties has been recognized by several awards.
